Decorated in an English-Colonial style, all of the 47 suites have views of the sea. In addition to the suites, there are six private cottages set on the eastern headland of the bay, some of which have private pools.

Relaxation is the key at this old favourite, therefore many of the mod cons usually rife in hotels are absent - complimentary Wi-Fi is not however, secretly to our relief. Instead, each has its own spacious balcony or verandah that comes with a sofa, wing chair, breakfast table and writing desk.

The private beach at Jamaica Inn is often considered to be the finest in Jamaica. Non-motorised watersports such as kayaking, sailing and snorkelling are available, and there is also a beach bar. Other water-sports such as diving are available locally, and can be arranged through the hotel.

Eating at Jamaica Inn is a renowned experience, made even more spectacular when served al fresco overlooking the bay. 6 courses in the norm, more often than not at candlelit tables laden with crystal and bone china

Other facilities include a swimming pool, croquet lawn, gym and library The Ki'yara Ocean Spa, offers moonlight massages and custom-made facials, as well as yoga, pilates and a range of massages and treatments.

Activities such as tennis, mountain biking, golf, horse riding, guided walks and eco-tours of the island can be found near the hotel. The famous Dunn's River Falls are also just ten minutes away.

Why we love it

Many of the local staff have worked at the hotel for decades, and retain the old-school glamour. Barman Teddy's fabulous highballs are living proof.

Strawberry Hill

There’s more to Jamaica than sandy beaches, nice as they are. The island’s fertile internal slopes are a haven from the heat with spectacular views of the coastline and sparkling Caribbean Sea beyond, and also home to the Strawberry Hill, a seriously elegant plantation house hotel.

Geejam is an achingly hip hideout on the Port Antonio coast that’s a magnet for cool kids and celebrities thanks to a laidback tropical ambience, oh, and its own recording studio. As you do.
