Fly Drive New Zealand

Beki Hunt

What we came up with

Few places are better designed for fly drive holidays than New Zealand. A luxury road trip in New Zealand allows you the chance to explore this magical country from top to bottom, taking in a selection of the best luxury lodges and many of the best experiences New Zealand has to offer.

Itinerary Highlights

  • Lake Taupo - 3 Days
Arrive into Auckland and after a quick overnight stay to catch up on sleep pick up your hire car for your fly drive New Zealand trip. We will provide you with detailed directions for the duration of the trip, and you can then drive the 4.5 hours from Auckland to Lake Taupo. Spend the next three nights at Huka Lodge, enjoying trout fishing, rafting, Maori culture trips, hiking, biking and with even the possibility of a scenic helicopter flight over dramatic volcanic landscapes.
  • Hawke's Bay - 2 days
Drive 1.5 hours to Hawke's Bay and spend two nights at The Farm at Cape Kidnappers, enjoying a farm tour (keep you eye out for the famous flightless kiwi bird) and wine tastings
  • Marlborough Sounds - 3 days
Drive to Hawkes Bay Airport and fly to Blenheim, via Wellington. There you will pick up your new hire car and drive 1.5 hours to the Marlborough Sounds before spending three nights at Bay of Many Coves. Enjoy a boat trip around the Marlborough Sounds, oyster catching and spotting dolphins, and spend a day hiking in this beautiful region.
  • Queenstown - 3 days
Drive back to Blenheim airport and fly down to Queenstown. Pick up Hire Car and drive 3 minutes to town for three nights at Blanket Bay, with the potential for a helicopter trip to Milford Sound, landing on the glacier for a picnic lunch; plus wine tasting, 4x4 off roading and walking the Routeburn Track.
  • Queenstown to Auckland - 1 day
Drop car and fly from Queenstown back to Auckland and connect on to UK.

A rough idea of price

A similar itinerary would cost in the region of £6,450 per person including all flights, luxury lodges, daily breakfast and dinner, car hire and organised trips.

A note about prices

The guide prices shown are designed to provide you with a broad indication of how much to budget for your trip. Prices are generally for private arrangements using economy flights based on two people travelling together and sharing a room. There are a number of factors which will influence the price; these include the standard of accommodation, the season, the class of flights, the airline used and the level of private guiding versus shared excursions.
