Located on 145 acres of private headland near Port Douglas, the lovely Thala Beach Nature Reserve offers guests the best of both rainforest and reef experiences.
All of the accommodation at the lodge is in luxury treehouse style rooms, with private balconies either in or above the lush treetops. Feel fully immersed in the vegetation in the Jungle Walk or Eucalypt Bungalows, or rise above it with the added benefit of a sea view in the Coral Sea Bungalows or Sandpiper Suite. Throughout the property the decor is simple and neutral with hardwood and wicker furniture reinforcing the treehouse style.
The open sides of the lodge's Osprey's Restaurant mean meals are enjoyed almost in the tree canopy. Expect locally sourced, seasonal Australian fusion cuisine and views reaching across the Coral Sea to the Great Barrier Reef. For drinks, Herbies Beach Shack, which is right on the beach, and the Masked Plover Bar, which is in the treetops, are both great options for cocktails at the end of a busy day exploring.
As the name suggests, Thala Beach has a lovely palm fringed beach to explore, as well as two outdoor pools and a massage studio, which make it a great place to relax and unwind at the end of an Australia itinerary. For those who prefer to stay more active, there are numerous nature walking trails to enjoy as well various complimentary activities such as star gazing, birding, talks with the local Kuku Yalangi people, and coconut plantation visits.
With the two UNESCO sites of Daintree Rainforest and the Great Barrier Reef both within a stone's throw, there are also endless activities to enjoy in the nearby region.
