A working farm on the forested slopes of the 3,200 square mile Ngorongoro Conservation Area, the beautifully restored and long-loved Gibb’s Farm is the ideal place to relax and unwind while immersing yourself in the rich local culture.
The farm is made up of a central farmhouse and 17 cottages, all set among formal English gardens. Accommodation is in the cottages and each is individually designed to reflect its setting and views. The décor is rustic and charming and features lots of handcrafted hardwood furniture, exposed stone and soft neutral colours. Inside each cottage there are two queen sized beds and ample space to relax, plus an en suite bathroom with indoor and outdoor shower. All cottages also benefit from a private veranda to sit and soak up the sun and the lush views from.
In the main farmhouse there are living rooms and reading corners, a gallery, a dining room, a bar and a gift shop. Organic coffee is grown, processed and roasted on the farm, and a vast 10-acre organic fruit and vegetable garden provides 90% of the ingredients needed for fresh, home-cooked meals.
There are several activities on offer in the Ngorongoro Forest, the Ngorongoro Crater and nearby Manyara National Park. These include guided farm walks and experiences, safari adventures, visits to the local community and guided walks to the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater and the surrounding area. For lazier days guests can relax by the pool or enjoy a massage in the wellness area.
The place has barely changed since 1929, retaining the charm of a well looked-after private house.
