OK, we’ll admit it – this is not a hotel of great aesthetic beauty, but the Djibouti Palace Kempinski is comfortably (in all senses of the word) the best hotel option in Djibouti, and the perfect place from which to explore the desert or beneath the waves.
There are 300 rooms in total with notably comfy beds and spacious, tastefully decorated bathrooms, and while this is primarily a business hotel there are enough elegant touches to appeal to the leisure traveller as well.
The hotel's three restaurants cover most bases with the modestly titled Lac Assal Exquisite Culinary Journey combining the finest flavours of Provence and Asia. Italian influence is to the fore at the Tentazioni and best of all are the delicious barbecues, seafood and grills at Bankoualé, the only beach restaurant in Djibouti. A coffee bar, cigar lounge, panoramic Sky Bar and nightclub complete the picture.
The state-of-the-art sports and leisure complex at the hotel is an extremely impressive set-up and ideal place to unwind. The K Spa offers a wide range of treatments, and in addition there are two infinity pools and, of course, a private beach.
