Three Tree Hill Lodge

Against the magnificent backdrop of the Drakensberg amphitheatre, overlooking the secluded Umfazomnyama Valley of the Spioenkop Nature Reserve and in the lee of the famous hill, Spioenkop, lies Three Trees Lodge.

Spectacular scenery, superb food and indulgent hosts make the lodge the ideal environment in which to escape and unwind.

This colonial style lodge has been built on a hillside amongst the striking Aloe Spectabilis and the Paperbark Acacia with views that inspired a guest to write ‘Africa at its finest!’ It overlooks the Spioenkop Game Reserve, where white rhino, giraffe, zebra, eland, kudu as well as numerous smaller antelope can be seen. 270 Bird species from Cape Vultures and Lanner Falcons to Buff Streaked Chats and Fairy Flycatchers have been recorded in the area.

The lodge itself is tastefully decorated in a colonial style with deep, wide verrandahs built all around the main lodge, perfect for enjoying leisurely meals and afternoon tea. The food is homely and delicious. Each of the twin cottages have their own bath, shower and deck with magnificent views of Spionkop and the reserve, even from the bath. The lodge has a swimming pool.

Three Trees Lodge specialises in the history of the 2nd Anglo-Boer War from (1899 – 1902) with the Battle of Spioenkop being the focal point. The guides bring this dramatic period of history to life by presenting world class, holistic, evocative and insightful tours

Being in such close proximity to the Drakensberg Mountains, Three Trees also provides the perfect base from which to explore this beautiful area. The owners of the lodge are qualified mountain guides and can take you on guided walks or challenging climbs as well as taking you on full day excursions in the vehicle, stopping at various views points, introducing you to various rock art in the area as well as simply taking you on an amble stroll in the mountains.

Other activities include horse riding and mountain biking on the property.
