Marataba
Marataba is a 57,000 acre private concession in the heart of the Marakele National Park – a malaria-free wilderness in South Africa’s Limpopo Province.
The concession lies at the foot of the Waterberg Mountains, encompassing a terrain of savannah, dense bushveld, winding rivers and deep gorges. Marataba lodge offers luxurious, modern accommodation in 12 tented suites that are a blend of canvas and stone. Each suite has its own private deck overlooking the sweeping plains and meandering river below.
The main lodge is designed with glass walls to take full advantage of the panoramic scenery and contains the living and dining areas, a bar and a library housed in a stone tower offering a birds-eye view of the surroundings. Activities at Marataba include game drives or walks with experienced guides. The Marakele Park is home to all of the Big Five and a multitude of other species including rare antelope such as roan, sable and mountain reedbuck. Back at the lodge, refresh yourself with a dip in the pool before enjoying gourmet cuisine either in the elegant dining room or outdoors in the traditional boma.
