Ant’s Nest & Ant’s Hill for families

Ant’s Nest and Ant’s Hill are two luxurious bush homes situated on adjoining private game reserves in the scenic, malaria-free Waterberg plateau, which lies between Johannesburg and the Limpopo River.

Ant’s Nest, an original homestead with a wide veranda, has a classic African atmosphere and sleeps 12. It is normally booked on an exclusive basis and is ideal for a group of friends or two or three families. Facilities include a 15-metre pool in the garden, extensive lawns and a thatched chill out spot with large sofa beds to relax on during the heat of the day. A wide variety of game frequents the waterhole in front of the house. About 15 minutes’ drive away is Ant’s Hill, set on the edge of an escarpment with spectacular views across the Waterberg. Ant’s Hill also sleeps 12 and is generally booked on a non-exclusive basis, but can also be booked in its entirety. Rooms come with four-poster beds and bathrooms featuring sunken baths and waterfall showers. The swimming pool, set amongst boulders on the edge of the cliff, cascades over the lip of the gorge. Guided walks and game drives are offered (including night drives) to discover the region’s flora and fauna. The terrain encompasses open plains and beautiful mountainous areas, supporting a wide variety of game including white rhino, zebra, giraffe, buffalo, warthog, vervet monkey, bush baby, the rare sable antelope and well over 300 species of resident and migrant birds. Other activities at Ant’s include mountain biking and riding elephants at a nearby reserve, or you can just relax by the pool and enjoy a massage. Special activities are laid on for children and teenagers, helping them learn to appreciate the environment. Last but not least, both lodges serve delicious home cooking, with lunches served under shady trees and suppers around open fires under the stars.
