Honeymoon Namibia

This is an all-time favourite Original Travel and Tim Best Travel destination thanks to the sheer excellence of the accommodation and the unusual and extreme nature of the landscapes.

It doesn’t get much more dramatic than the gigantic dunes of Sossusvlei, in the heart of the Namib Desert, and one of the most iconic sights in Africa. The nearby NamibRand Nature Reserve lies on the eastern edge of the Namib Desert. There are things to do here – walks, game drives, hot air balloon trips – but it’s really about enjoying the immensity of the landscape and staying in some of Africa’s most sophisticated and romantic properties at Wolwedans.

We don’t often name-check specific lodges in country descriptions but Wolwedans is so immaculate and so perfect for honeymooners we feel it deserves a specific plug. The piece de resistance is Private Camp, a beautifully designed and private (as the name would suggest) lodge several miles from the main camp where a couple can spend a day or two in blissful solitude, with gourmet meals delivered to order but otherwise left alone to enjoy the silence and at night, stars all the way down to the horizon.

If that all sounds a little relaxing, then consider combining that with a properly adventurous small aircraft safari along the wild Skeleton Coast or time in the country’s best game viewing area - Etosha.
