Shompole

Shompole lies on the edge of the Nguruman Escarpment, overlooking the Great Rift Valley in southern Kenya, close to the Tanzanian border and the soda lakes Natron and Magadi.

Shompole is operated very much as a joint venture between the owners and the local Maasai community, who comprise the majority of lodge staff and rangers. The lodge design incorporates flowing water and smooth white walls, creating a fresh approach to the bush experience. The eight tented rooms are open to the elements and have views towards Mt Shompole. Each has its own private plunge pool, en-suite bathroom and lounge area. Activities include guided bush walks, river trips, night drives, sundowner visits to Lake Natron to see the flamingos, picnics and nights spent out in romantic fly-camps. Alternatively guests can relax and enjoy the facilities of the lodge itself, which include a full time beautician offering beauty treatments and massage. The 35,000-acre conservancy is situated in one of the most ecologically diverse areas in Africa with environments ranging from rainforest, through acacia woodland, grass plains, riverine forest, salt plains and soda lakes. As a result, the area is home to rich wildlife, including abundant plains game and a huge number of bird species.
