Venezuela must be one of the most thoroughly underrated countries out there, or at least we at Original Travel and Tim Best Travel think so. Unlike other Central and South American countries, Venezuela is not famed for its ancient ruins like Peru’s Machu Picchu or Guatemala’s Tikal; it has its own exotic allure.

It is a country of outstanding diversity. In some areas, tepuis - flat-topped mountains – pierce the Venezuelan landscape and tower over the gaping savannas, plains, rivers and marshlands. Elsewhere, the tropical Amazon rainforest can be explored by travelers keen to venture deep into the humid jungles among the parrots, monkeys and serpents that reside there. Moreover, unspoiled coastlines stretch out before the tranquil, blue waves of the Caribbean Sea and secluded off-shore islands. The world’s highest waterfall is to be found here too; the majestic waters of Angel Falls pummel the rocks below, falling an impressive 929m from the top of a tepui in Parque Nacional Canaima. Ethnic diversity is also notable in Venezuela; on the streets of any Venezuelan town, visitors will encounter Africans, Indians, Asians and Arabs, people of every race and ethnicity.
