Cala Mia
Cala Mia is located on the virtually uninhabited island of Boca Brava, one of over a hundred islands within in the Chiriquí archipelago off the Pacific Coast of Panama.
A comfortable taxi boat from Marina Pedregal whisks guests on a 50 minute journey through lagoons, mangroves and tidal-wetlands, and past several indigenous villages.
Cala Mia itself is a true barefoot paradise, perched on a peninsula at one end of the island, with thatched bungalows and breathtaking views of the Pacific. An entirely solar powered resort, Cala Mia is a truly and environmentally friendly set up.
Each of the eleven bungalows has its own covered rancho area with a hammock strung across it, and although there is no air conditioning, the rooms are kept cool by refreshing breezes blowing in from the sea. The furniture, materials and woodwork are handcrafted by local artisans.
The bar-restaurant is built on the highest point of the peninsula, and serves Mediterranean cuisine using home grown organic ingredients. Directly in front of the restaurant is a small freshwater infinity pool, and set on a craggy rock connected to the main peninsula by a hanging bridge is the hotel’s massage area.
Activities on offer include sport fishing, snorkelling, whale and dolphin watching, surfing, horse riding and boat trips.
