Hotelito Desconocido
Hotelito Desconocido is a romantic hideaway situated 60 miles (2hr drive) south of Puerto Vallarta on a wetland nature reserve.
The ecologically minded resort uses solar energy for heating water and the property is on one of the most important turtle and bird reserves in Mexico.
The activities include horseback riding, mountain biking, fishing for red snapper, catamarans, kayaking, canoeing, rowing, windsurfing, hiking, bird watching and from June to January, the Mexican Pacific Coast provides the opportunity to see a potential six species of turtle at the nearby sanctuary, the tour is guided by a resident biologist.
The rooms have individual thatched ‘palafitos’ (timber huts on stilts) with simple interiors, decorated with splashes of colour, murals and regional artefacts. A river runs through the grounds, dividing the property and separating it from the Pacific beach, needing a short row-boat crossing to get to the main beach. At night gas lamps and candles are used for lighting.
Service at Hotelito is attentive yet relaxed, a raised flag is used to request room service. Meals are made from home grown produce as much as possible and home cooked using Abuela´s Mexican recipes. There are two restaurants, one on the beach near the pool serves light meals for lunch, and the quaint Cantarito Bar and Restaurant with its fantastic view for breakfast and dinner. Menus change daily, the food is plentiful and very fresh and centered around seafood and organic fruits and vegetables.
The Spa offers a full range of massages and Yoga classes.
