Plaza Grande
This legendary building was originally the home of Juan Díaz de Hidalgo, one of the Spanish conquerors who founded Quito in the early 16th century.
There’s nothing fashionable about this hotel; it has all the facilities you’d want, including a spa, and a superb location, a restaurant overlooking the plaza, bar and wine cellar, but modern it isn’t.
The hotel is exceedingly central, sitting in the heart of colonial Quito on the Plaza de la Independencia, opposite the Cathedral and close to the Presidential Palace.
