The Last House
Last House is an elegant villa situated on the beautiful southern coastline near Tangalle with a lagoon on one side and a beach on the other.
The Last House is laid out in a horse-shoe shape, with kitchen, living rooms and courtyard bedrooms surrounding the lovely 30 ft swimming pool on three sides. The beauty of this design is that the various verandas, dining and sitting rooms are well-suited to social occasions, but the property also offers privacy to friends or a family. The interiors are tastefully designed with a mix of antiques and contemporary furniture, local art and artifacts. At the back of the main building there is a garden with an expansive stretch of lawn leading down to the enormous beach that offers safe swimming for much of the year.
The four double bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms, and an additional twin and single share a bathroom. The bedrooms are beautifully furnished, airy and light. The living and dining areas overlook the 10-metre swimming pool and local curries and western dishes are served according to guest’s wishes. The Last House is sold on an “all-inclusive” basis with a per person fee charged each day for three meals and all drinks, including house wine.
Activities on offer include whale watching, snorkelling, sailing, river trips, and sea kayaking at nearby Mirissa; a visit to the small fishing village of Rakuwa where a fascinating Marine Turtle Conservation project is helping to save this endangered species. Tangalle and the surrounding areas are renowned for its superb unspoiled and undeveloped beaches and other attractions include Yala National Park, a 90-minute drive away. Finally, no trip would be complete without a trip into the elegant UNESCO Heritage city of Galle.
