Amankora
Five luxurious lodges owned by Aman which can be visited individually or together on a circular route through some of the country’s most spectacular scenery.
Amankora Paro is a 30-minute drive from the kingdom's only international airport and is the largest of the five lodges, sitting in pine forest nearly 3000m above sea level.
Amankora Thimpu is close to Bhutan's capital, while Gangtey is much more rural, near a village in a valley called Phobjikha. A long drive east is Bumthang, while Punakha sits west.
Each lodge is different, and they range in size from 8 to 24 rooms, their design contrasting rustic and traditional with contemporary. Some are inspired by the architecture of the dzongs (fortress-monasteries) typical of Bhutan; others are based on traditional farmhouse buildings. In all cases, the accommodation is extremely comfortable, with spa facilities, fine views and bukharis (wood-burning stoves) to keep the rooms cosy in the winter months.
