Reethi Rah
Set on one of the largest islands in North Male Atoll, the One&Only at Reethi Rah is one of the finest of the (very fine) hotels in the Maldives.
One & Only certainly made a statement of intent with Reethi Rah, their first (to date) venture in the Maldives. The original island was more than doubled in size to accommodate the 130 villas, and 15,000 coconut trees were imported. The result? One of the most immaculate hotels in the Maldives, or anywhere, for that matter. The villas are seriously spacious and - whether on land or over water - extremely private.
On the food front, Reethi Restaurant, main restaurant, is a series of thatched over-water pavilions. Tapasake, as the name suggests, serves excellent Japanese cuisine, including arguably the freshest sushi imaginable. On the north of the island, Fanditha is a more informal beachside spot serving Middle Eastern mezze, grills and salads. The Rah Bar might sound like a Sloane hangout, but the clientele at this vibrant cocktail bar is more likely to be beautiful Euro-honeymooners.
The obligatory spa is set within peaceful zen gardens and has eight treatment suites (not rooms) and two overwater spa suites. A meditation pavilion also provides a haven for contemplation of just which activities to partake in next. There's excellent diving for adults (and also children as young as eight) as well as all the usual watersports, tennis, boat excursions and desert island picnics.
