Tenerife

Spain

The Canary Islands, lying on the same latitude as Florida and a long-time favourite winter sun destination, are catering to a new clientele, and we rate Tenerife particularly.

There's so much more to Tenerife than sun, sand and sangria, although all three are welcome. The island's beaches and surfing are outstanding, and many of its excellent hotels have outstanding settings, panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean and, often, a comprehensive range of family friendly facilities.

Plus, there's Spain's tallest mountain in Mt Teide to climb, and the second biggest carnival in the world in the capital Santa Cruz in February. And when Santa Cruz isn't over-run by hundreds of thousands of revellers, it's a delightful and civilised city without an Irish Pub in sight.

All in all, Tenerife is full of surprises and, with a climate that allows year round exploration, a destination we highly recommend.
