Tuscany & Umbria
Italy
Even by Italian standards, Tuscany and Umbria are regions of outstanding natural beauty and cultural riches - their historic towns packed with architectural and artistic treasures, and surrounded by picture-postcard landscapes of rolling hills and cypress trees
Tuscany’s highlights include Siena, which hosts the famous annual Palio horse race; the wonderfully preserved medieval city of San Gimignano, with its soaring towers; Pisa with its leaning tower; and of course Florence, the ‘cradle of the Renaissance’, with its magnificent duomo, Uffizi gallery and Ponte Vecchio. Added to this, Tuscany has miles of Mediterranean coastline.
Landlocked Umbria, with its steep hills, olive groves and terraced vineyards, is the ancient heart of Italy - every bit the equal of its more famous neighbour, but with the added advantage of being far less crowded. Umbria’s cultural attractions include the towns of Perugia, Assisi and Orvieto to name just three, and when you have had your fill of culture, there are unspoilt rural expanses to explore.
Original Travel has selected some of the best properties from across these two regions. Many of them are in rural settings, but within easy range of the main cultural attractions, giving you the best of both worlds, but we have also included some properties in the beautiful city of Florence itself.
