Sardinia is renowned as a summer playground for adults, and while undoubtedly being a destination that appeals to grown up kids, it’s also pretty ideal for actual kids.

One Mediterranean island, several world-beating family hotel destinations. Top of the pile is the multi-award winning Forte Village on the island’s south-western coast, 45 minutes’ drive from Cagliari and set in 55 acres of green parkland, fringed by a long sandy beach. The resort offers a choice of seven different hotels, 21 restaurants, an amazing range of facilities and infinite opportunities to have fun. Thanks to the chain of mountains just inland, this corner of Sardinia also enjoys a special micro-climate that means temperatures never get too extreme.

There’s really no need to leave the resort, but should you wish to spread your wings you can rent cars, mountain bikes or boats for excursions into the unspoilt interior of Sardinia or along the coast to nearby islands and beaches.

At the opposite end of the island, not many of the hotels in the oligarch's playground of the Costa Smeralda are family-friendly, but one shining exception is the Hotel Romazzino, just six miles from Porto Cervo. Its whitewashed buildings sit in gardens that lead down to a beautiful and private sandy beach.

If you can tear yourself and your offspring away from the hotel, there are miles of beautiful coastline to explore. You can hire a boat from the hotel’s jetty and visit the weird rock formations at Capo Testa or stop off to swim or snorkel in the famously translucent green waters to be found in dozens of secluded coves.

Slightly further afield, just off the north-east coast, are the islands of the Maddalena Archipelago, where Garibaldi once lived (that’s right – the one the ‘squashed fly’ biscuits are named after). Here you can enjoy a picnic lunch on a deserted pink sand beach and snorkel over the wrecks of old Roman cargo ships.

We also offer a car rental service because exploring the island is strongly recommended. The wild, mountainous interior of Sardinia, with its rustic landscapes and traditional villages, is well worth visiting.
