Ayii Anargyri

Cyprus is not just about the beach. Ayii Anargyri is tucked away in the mountains, and makes for an excellent twin centre combo with one of the many excellent beach hotels we recommend.

Opened in 2009 as a spa hotel, Ayii Anargyri has various levels of accommodation from standard rooms in a new wing, the original rooms that housed the monks (given a lick of paint and more, naturally), and also garden bungalows for four guests. All the room types are done up in sophisticated and understated style.

Amaroula is a light, bright, elegant restaurant where breakfasts and lunches are served overlooking the swimming pool and woodland beyond. At night falls Amaroula becomes a cosy candle-lit restaurant with a menu using only the finest ingredients – many of them locally grown including fragrant fresh herbs.

The 17th century Old Bar was used as the Ayii Anargyri altar in monastic times, but now a place of worship for coffee and cocktail lovers. The Kamari is both wine cellar and venue for medieval-style gastronomic evenings where chef’s specialities such as deer, wild boar or guinea fowl are served.

The excellent spa offers the usual range of treatments but also benefits from a mineral-rich spring and stream that has been channelled to the spa where it is combined in numerous treatments. Bathing in sulphur spring water is meant to heal inflammatory joints and stimulate the entire nervous system.
