Pucic Palace
The best - and virtually only - place to stay within the city walls.
Surprisingly there are only two hotels within the walls of Dubrovnik, and the Pucic Palace is by far the better of the two. Overlooking the Gundulic Square, the hotel is ideally located in the heart of the town and no more than a few minutes walk from all the main sites. The interiors were refurbished in 2002 and this is now the quintessential city boutique hotel, although pretty expensive.
On arrival in Dubrovnik, guests are met by a porter at the city gates and your luggage is wheeled through the cobbled streets in one of the best possible hotel arrivals. The hotel itself only has high-ceilinged 19 rooms, a brasserie restaurant and wine bar with tables outside in the square. Each morning there is a charming market in the Gundulic Square where farmers from the surrounding countryside come into town to sell their produce. The Defne restaurant in an internal terraced courtyard, is only open in summer and serves Mediterranean food.
