The Reggae Island

Jamaica

Alongside Cuba, Jamaica has the most distinctive character of any of the Caribbean Islands, and while Cuba feels thoroughly Latin (with a dash of communist ideology, obviously), Jamaica’s soul lies across the Atlantic in Africa.

Aside from an African attitude – manifested in reggae and Rastafarianism - the size and dramatic topography of the island also naturally sets it apart, as does the sheer range of things to do.

Original Travel have long sung Jamaica’s praises and can organize activities from hiking tours or waterfall walks to boat trips to see the rare manatees and diving on some of the best reefs in the region.

Bob Marley fan or not, if you are in Jamaica for more than a few days a visit to Kingston is worth considering, as this is a hugely atmospheric city, and a total contrast to the picture perfect palm-fringed beaches you’ll doubtless spend time on as well.
