Dramatic mountains form a scenic background to the vineyards that produce the country’s finest vintages in the region around Stellensbosch and Franschhoek.

In Franschhoek, choose between Le Quartier Francais and La Residence. Le Quartier Francais is located in the heart of this pretty village, which was originally inhabited by a community of banished French Huguenots, who brought with them a Gallic appreciation of all things epicurean. The hotel’s cafe fronts on to the tree-lined main street, but the guest rooms are dotted around the large and tranquil gardens behind. Quartier Francais has been named 'Best Small Hotel in the World, 2005' by Tatler UK.

La Residence is an immaculate country house-style hotel with just five suites, set amidst vineyards and beautiful countryside on the edge of Franschhoek. Excellent food and wine is complemented by activities such as trout fishing and mountain walks. La Residence offers an extremely high level of service, with private chefs, butlers and chauffeurs for guests. Booked on an exclusive basis it offers good value, but becomes more expensive when booked on an individual room basis.

These three destinations are ideal bases from which to explore the picturesque Cape winelands and to visit (and taste the produce of) the many vineyards, which are all in close proximity.
