The city of Granada has one of the most dramatic locations in Spain, poised below the magnificent snow capped peaks of the Sierra Nevada. It is the perfect setting for one of Europe's most stunning monuments, The Alhambra Palace - the impressive palace-fortress of the last Spanish Muslim Kingdom, the Nasrid Sultans.

Modern Granada today is a vibrant melting pot of eastern and western cultures. The cobbled streets are filled with artisan shops, tapas bars and restaurants. There is a notably young population thanks to its university, and with its eclectic contrast of Muslim and Spanish culture, Granada is one of the “must see” cities of Spain.

Only a 40 minute drive from Granada is the ski resort of Sierra Nevada. At 2100m this is one of Europe’s highest resorts. Skiing runs from December though to April and though a small resort, it was host to the ‘95 World Ski Championships and now boasts 80 runs and 24 lifts and numerous snow machines to help against the Spring sun. There are not many resorts where one can ski with views across to the African coast, and on the clearest of days, even Castilla la Mancha in the central part of eastern Spain. Even if one is not a skier, it is well worth a trip up here to explore the National Park or just admire the views back down to Granada.

The place to stay is the luxurious Palacio de los Patos in the heart of the historic centre. This converted 19th century palace, mixes modern design with its historic setting. After a hard day exploring the city or skiing the slopes you can come back and relax in the Arabian baths or indulge in a spa and massage treatment.
