It's a common misconception that the Alps close for business come the end of the ski season but the verdant summer pastures are unrecognisable from the icy winter landscape and the perfect playground for enjoying a huge range of different activities in the safe hands of expert guides.

Chamonix, sitting at the base of Mont Blanc - the highest summit in Western Europe at over 15,700 feet - is the perfect base to try out what the summer Alps have to offer.

Canyoning involves abseiling down waterfalls, sliding along natural water chutes, and jumping into pools of clear mountain water.

Chamonix offers some of the most spectacular paragliding in Europe. Under the experienced guidance of our team of professionals you can try individual jumps or learn all the basics of paragliding over a 5-day course which should leave you qualified to parapente solo. During the course perform at least six tandem flights following the directions of the accompanying instructor. Training on the ground allows you to develop the correct techniques for two solo flights supervised by an instructor at take off and another at the landing field.

Aside from the highs of paragliding, there are treks and mountain bike trails past mountain hamlets on some 200 miles of marked paths.

Chamonix was the first centre for climbers, and Original Travel can arrange easy single-pitch routes to more challenging multi-pitch faces. Particularly recommended for climbers is the traverse of the Mer de Glace with its panoramic views of the Mont Blanc massif.
