HOLIDAY HIGHLIGHTS
Perfect kite-surfing conditions > Crystal clear sea > Immaculate kite-surfing centre > Quality instruction and equipment > Combining activity and culture
On your first day in Cairo, Original Travels expert guides can explain the mysteries and construction of the last remaining ancient wonder of the world, the Pyramids of Giza. Enjoy a privately escorted trip around these wonderful archaeological sites before a 2.5 hour transfer to the Red Sea coast at Ras Sudr.
Ras Sudr is home to unparalleled kite-surfing conditions, for beginners and experts alike. A steady cross-shore wind blows along the calm blue waters of the Gulf of Suez. 500 foot of waist-deep water stretch out from the uncharacteristically fine sandy beach making for ideal kite-surfing conditions.
From here the bay sweeps out a further kilometre to a sand bar where a slight chop is raised by the wind, making it ideal for the more adventurous free-riding kitesurfer. Wind conditions are near perfect all year round although the best winds blow from May to September. The wind tends to build during the afternoon and dies away again in the evening. For those into wind-surfing, Ras Sudr is also a fantatsic location.
Original Travel has tied up with Ras Sudrs brand new Kite-Surfing Centre which has stacks of new equipment, excellent instructors and a lovely shaded chill-out area with good food, drinks and music.
In Cairo, stay at The Mena House Hotel, originally a royal lodge for Khedive Ismail, the King of Egypt in the late 1800s, who stayed there during hunting trips in the desert. This historic building boasts a prime setting, overlooking the Pyramids. Alternatively, choose the superb new Four Seasons Nile Plaza in downtown Cairo, with its comprehensive range of facilities, including the city's largest spa.
In Ras Sudr, stay at either the 3-star Ramada, just a stones throw from the Kite-Surfing Centre or in nearby Green Creative, a 4-star option just a mile away.
