Favourite places
The Okavango Delta in Botswana where I worked after university. Having never even seen an elephant (not even at the zoo) I was faced with a charging bull on the 7 hours drive into camp. From there on it was a animal extravaganza with lions walking through camp, nutty the resident squirrel and numerous snakes which I stumbled across now and again. The baboons which made their home in the tree above my tent were my least favourite.
The Snake River in Idaho because it is where I spent my favourite family holiday white water rafting and camping on the banks of the river. The scenery is breathtaking and I will never forget the memory of my father having to shave with a small mug of river water outside his tent! The Norfolk Coast… because after being all the way round the world, its great to come home.
Travel things I want to do before I die
Go riding on an estancia in Argentina, fly down the Skeleton Coast in Namibia and see the Tiger Leaping Gorge and the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain in Lijang, China.
Best moments
Watching the humpback whales in Mozambique, there must have been 50 or 60 surrounding the boat and averaging 40 tonnes and 45ft in length, that’s a whole lot of whale. Hot air ballooning over the Rocky Mountains and walking along the Great Wall of China to places where we couldn’t see any Chinese man for miles, which is a great achievement given the dense population!
Worst moments
Getting lost in the Marrakech Medina and being served snake for dinner in Vietnam.
Worst journey to best place
After 3 punctures in very deep sandand 4 girls on board an antiquated Land Rover, blood sweat and tears, arriving at Lake McKenzie on Fraser Island, Australia was well worth the trip there!
