Beautiful beaches? Tick. Uber-romantic and remote lodges? Tick. Super-spoiling service and the potential for post-wedding pampering? Tick. The chance for a bit of adventure should the mood take you? Tick. On the face of it Africa has a lot going for it as a potential honeymoon destination, and it gets better. There's something for honeymooners in every month of the year, be their nuptials while nervously praying for clear skies in June or winter weddings in deep snow. So given you can consider African honeymoons at any time of year, where would we recommend? Starting at the continent's tip, South Africa has the alluring combination of Africa's' slickest city, Cape Town, with the beautiful and bounteous Winelands in easy reach and some seriously bling safari lodges to boot.
Neighbours..
Namibia and Botswana also make for spectacular honeymoon destinations either in their own right, or in combination with South Africa. The eagle-eyed among you will have noted the lack of a killer beachfront option here, so take a bow Mozambique, the hottest destination in all Africa with dreamy beachfront and island eco-lodges opening at a rate of knots. All these southern African destinations are combinable with each for an itinerary that will fit your bill to perfection. Hopping over to East Africa, Kenya and Tanzania are the very essence of 'bush and beach' honeymoon destinations, both offering the chance to stay in some atmospheric safari camp or lodge deep in the savannah and channelling pure 'Out of Africa', followed by a stay at an immaculate beachfront lodge for some serious R&R. It's a tried, tested and triumphant combination.
Finally..
..for a honeymoon that puts the Original in Original Travel, why not mix it up a little by including some of our other favourite but less well trodden destinations such as weird and wonderful Madagascar, trekking with chimps in deepest darkest Western Tanzania or hanging out in the 'Galapagos of Africa' the completely magical Sao Tome & Principe.
Even more finally..
..and slightly outside this blog's specific remit, Africa can combine beautifully with further flung beach destinations. There are direct flights from Nairobi to the Seychelles, and from Johannesburg to both the Seychelles and Mauritius, and we know both these destinations extremely well, including organising one, ahem, rather special honeymoon to the Seychelles of late.
