DESTINATION OVERVIEW
Costa Rica is the classic all-round destination of Central America. Located in the middle of the Central American isthmus, it has become established as a model for eco-tourism thanks to two main features. Firstly, Costa Rica is peaceful, stable and has a well developed tourist infrastructure; secondly, a higher percentage of its land is protected in national parks than any other country in the world. Its tropical forests, rivers and seas are home to a huge diversity of wildlife, from monkeys and sloths to iguanas, crocodiles, and turtles. The country is also renowned for its rich birdlife. Covering only 0.03% of the surface of our planet, Costa Rica has approximately 6% of the world's biodiversity. In addition, Costa Rica is characterized by an impressive scenic beauty and, due to its Pacific and Caribbean coasts, offers great beaches and year-round, world class surfing.
