DESTINATION OVERVIEW
The vast island-continent of Australia is a country of natural beauty and vivid contrasts. Its spectacular landscapes range from sun-scorched deserts to lush tropical rainforests, rolling farmland, rugged mountain ranges and thousands of miles of unspoilt coastline. Australia is the sixth largest country in the world, but has the world’s lowest population density. Its wide open spaces are home to many World Heritage listed wilderness areas. These include the Great Barrier Reef, the ancient tropical rainforest of the Daintree, Uluru (Ayers Rock) – the world's biggest monolith – National Parks such as the Kakadu and the Purnululu, and the pristine alpine wilderness of Tasmania. Australia’s wildlife, evolving in isolation for over 50 million years, includes hundreds of species not found anywhere else in the world. Last but not least, the country has vibrant, modern cities boasting world famous man-made landmarks.
