Bamurru Plains
Bamurru Plains is a luxury ‘wild bush’ tented safari camp in a region famous for having Australia’s most prolific bird and wildlife.
The main lodge is an elegant wooden building with a pool and pillow-filled gazebos all offering fabulous views out over the wetlands. Accommodation is in luxury part-tented suites, designed with a careful blend of rusticity and exclusivity. The food is outstanding and sourced locally wherever possible, although you might find lobster on the menu occasionally.
The floodplain wetlands of the Mary River catchment are some of the most important in the country, and home to some 236 species of bird and bigger beasts from Agile Wallabies to estuarine crocodiles and water buffalo. One of the highlights of a stay at this safari-style camp is a tour by airboat (think Florida and those flat-bottomed boats powered by over-sized desk fans).
Other activities include 4x4 safaris, fishing and river cruises. A great addition to staying at Bamurru and Bullo is to tack on a private safari into Kakadu & the vast territory of Arnhem Land, populated by isolated communities of Aborigines and famed for a plethora of rock art sites.
